NAM: Tell us about yourself:
Braylin: I  am a spunky eleven year old who enjoys acting, pageants, and being involved with my community.

NAM: What activities are you involved in?
Braylin: As an energetic creative girl I am involved with dancing, acting, tumbling, and art.

NAM: What are your plans for the future?
BraylinAction! In the future I plan to become an Oscar winning movie director by making my dreams come to life.

NAM: How would your friends describe you?
Braylin: I have so many wonderful friends, they would describe me as a fun to be around, energetic, nice, ball of joy.

NAM: What motto or quote best describes you?
Braylin: “Little things come in small packages” is one of many quotes that best describes me. I am very small for my age but I have a very big personality!

NAM: What is the best advice you have ever received?
Braylin: “Just have fun” is the best advice I have received so far in my life. It has helped me gain confidence in myself because I’m focused on having fun more than anything.

NAM: How did you prepare for the NAM National pageant?
Braylin: As they say “practice makes perfect.” While preparing for NAM, I figured that that was the thing to do. I did mock-interviews with friends and family, practiced my intro on my spare time, and practiced walking around my living room as if it were the stage for formal wear.

NAM: Where is your favorite place to shop?
Braylin: I am a total fashionista when it comes to clothes! I absolutely love to shop at Justice because they have the cutest clothes ever.

NAM: How have pageants shaped your life?
Braylin:  Ever since I started pageants, I have grown to become a poised young lady who has confidence in herself and isn’t afraid to speak in front of anyone.

NAM: What is your most prized possession?
Braylin: It all started the week before Christmas when a box was delivered to the steps of my house. As I opened the box I saw my favorite color blue and knew that it was perfect. I pulled out a blue blanket with my initials monogramed in lime green. It was from my best friend Samantha Coffey! From that day I have brought my blue blanket everywhere with me because it is so special.

NAM: What is your favorite movie?
Braylin: I love action movies and Big Hero 6 is my favorite action movie of all time. I loved the movie because Hero’s best friends and Baymax taught Hero that he should never give up.

NAM: What is your favorite TV show?
Braylin: I love fairy tale characters and Once Upon a Time is my favorite TV show because it brings my favorite characters to life and tells an adventurous story.

NAM: What is your book?
Braylin: I am currently reading the Fault in our Stars and it didn’t take much reading for me to love it. I like how even though the two main characters are diagnosed with deadly diseases they live their lives to the fullest.

NAM: What advice do you have for future NAM girls?
Braylin: As someone once told me “just have fun,” I figured that I would pass that onto other NAM girls because having fun is what really counts.

NAM: If you could be famous for anything what would it be?
BraylIn: My bubbly personality would make me famous! Everyone I meet compliments me on my spirit. So I would definitely be famous for that.

NAM: What is your dream job?
Braylin: As I have said in the future I would love to become a movie director, so that’s basically my dream job. As a movie director, I could make thousands of movies and make big stars too.

NAM: How do you plan to use your title?
Braylin: Making a difference in people’s lives is the way I plan to use my title. I could donate to the women’s covenant house in New Orleans. Or maybe, ride in parades and give out candy! Every kid loves candy, but whatever the task is I’m up for it!

NAM: How do you volunteer in your community?
BraylIn: Volunteering in my community is very important to me so to do that, I volunteer at my church to be a youth counselor! For that task I spend one week at church, in a classroom teaching about God! I also donate clothes to the Women’s covenant house! It’s very fun!

NAM: What is your most embarrassing moment?
Braylin: What could be more embarrassing than falling out of a chair in class? When that happened I could feel my face getting really red, but then I felt a smile on my face. From that day I learned to just laugh with everyone, and not at myself.

NAM: What is your favorite subject in school?
Braylin: Ms. Sigur, (my history teacher) has made history my favorite subject! She lets us watch tons of videos, arts and crafts, and even lets us eat exotic food! But the funny thing is that all of that stuff has to do with the subject!

NAM: What is your biggest fear?
Braylin: Being taken away from my family is really scary to think about. They are all so supportive and I love them. So to be taken away from them is my biggest fear.

NAM: Who is your rolemodel?
Braylin: My mom of all the people in the world would be my role model because she encourages me and supports me in everything that I do. When I mean support I mean financially and mentally. Her and my dad all ways find ways to support me! I love my mom very much!

NAM: If you could go back in time to any historical event what would it be?
Braylin: In history there are so many events that are happy and sad but if I could choose one event to go back in time to I would go to when Martin Luther king Jr. gave his “I have a dream” speech. I would want to be the behind the scene girl. The reason I would go there is because of courage. I would like to see how much courage it took to say the speech. Courage is the key to confidence is what I believe. So Martin Luther King Jr. gives me courage to have confidence.

NAM: If you could have dinner with anyone, who would it be?
Braylin: Dinner in the white house, with the president, or dinner at my grandmas, with my cousins. I choose my cousins because they’re my family. My grandma lives in Mississippi and so do most of my cousins. We all barely get to see each other and a nice meal together just talking would be so much fun, we could just catch up. But the president would be cool too.

NAM: What is your favorite part about National American Miss?

Braylin: I love NAM because of all my new friends! I go to my state pageant, and nationals without any friends at all then come back with like 20 million!! One of my friends that I have made during my NAM year is from Texas, her name is Samantha Coffey and we became very close friends. In fact, we went visit her over the Christmas break! We had so much fun and I will never forget it!

NAM: How did you get started with NAM? How long have you been involved?
Braylin: When I was 5 we got a letter in the mail about NAM. It talked about this thing called an open call so we went. Turns out, the week later we got another letter saying that I had qualified for NAM I was so excited! So I competed and I ended up winning princess. But we were new, so we really didn’t know anything, so for nationals I didn’t, but that was ok. Then when I was able to, I competed for jr. pre-teen and I got 1st runner up 2 years in row, so that second year I won all-American jr. pre-teen. But this year I competed for pre-teen, but that was a whole different ball game, it was hard, but I did it, and then I was off to nationals. I met so many new friends, and most of my good friends were in the audience cheering for me, and then I realized that I won!!

NAM: What is your definition of a NAM girl?
Braylin: Be yourself, is my definition of a NAM girl. When you are on stage and you give a little chuckle, being yourself. I feel like the judges like to see when you are doing your own thing! Being yourself will guide you where you need to go. So just be yourself!

NAM: What do you like to do for fun?
Braylin: Well there are many things that I like to do for fun like roller-skating, riding my bike, acting, playing with my sister, reading, and taking selfies. Exercise is very important to me so when you are outside riding your bike, or roller-skating its really fun.

NAM: What makes your state unique?
Braylin: Louisiana just the name sounds unique! But, what really makes us unique is our parishes. Other states have counties. We are also the only L state. We also really love our spice!!

NAM: What is your favorite food?
Braylin:Ground meat spaghetti is the bomb!  Especially the kind my mom makes! I love the sauce drizzled gently on the wiggly noodles!

NAM: What was your first thought you had when you captured your national title?
Braylin: “I can’t believe it” those were the words that bounced in my head when I won! I could not believe everything that was happening! Everything that I had been working on finally paid off.

NAM: People would be surprised to know what about you?
Braylin: I am double jointed in almost every part of my body. In every finger I am double jointed, also in my knees, lips, jaw, my wrist, and my ribs. It sounds freaky right? I know I can’t even believe it.

NAM: Tell us about yourself:
Jordan: My name is Jordan Meachum, and I’m from the Peach State. I’m an 18 year old junior in high school. I love to spend time with my friends and family and try to  go to the movies at least once a week! I take Japanese as a foreign language in school, and I’ve been taking it for the past three years. In fact, last summer of 2014, I had the opportunity to travel to Japan with my classmates and explore the Japanese culture and landscape! I would go back in a heartbeat and take my family with me! It was truly an unforgettable experience. I was interviewed and selected by my teachers to be a peer leader. It’s an important responsibility because I have to help rising freshmen adjust to the high school environment by being their mentor. I love to play the violin, piano, and sing (although I’m not quite as gifted as my parents). I have a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, and I love pageants because they are an opportunity to show the potential in everyone who participates.

NAM: What are your plans for the future?
Jordan: Once I graduate high school in 2016, I’m hoping to major in Journalism and Communications because I want to be an International broadcast journalist. I want to travel all around world and observe the different cultures, art, and food! It has always been my dream since I started NAM.

NAM: How would your friends describe you?
Jordan:  My friends would definitely say I’m nice, (maybe even too nice) and that I don’t have “a mean bone in my body”! I mean, you would probably have to hit me with a bulldozer to get on my bad side. They would also say I’m eager to make friends with anyone and create long-lasting relationships with them.

NAM: What motto or quote best describes you?
Jordan: My favorite quote by Henry Ford best describes me: “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t, you’re right”. This quote motivates me to challenge myself and try new things.

NAM: How did you prepare for the NAM National pageant?
Jordan: Practice, Practice, Practice is the key! Being a perfectionist, I practiced my formal wear walk at least twice a day, I practiced my personal introduction in front of my mirror until I got a good grasp of it, and my mom focuses on interview, so she would ask me questions anytime or anywhere.

NAM: Where is your favorite place to shop?
Jordan: My favorite place to shop is definitely Bath and Body Works! I love walking in there and buying new scents. Just last week, I bought the shower gel and body lotion of “Mad About You”. It smells amazing! If anyone plans a trip to Bath and Body Works, be sure to invite me!

NAM: What is your most prized possession?
Jordan: My prized possession? Definitely my little yorkie Sammie! She’s been a part of my family for ten years, and though I think she hates my guts most of the time, she definitely has her loving moments with me.

NAM: What is your favorite movie?
Jordan: My favorite movie and broadway show is definitely Phantom of the Opera! I love the romantic plot and the music! I’m so obsessed with it. I try to sing opera like the characters but fail miserably. I own the movie, soundtrack, and the monkey playing music box.

NAM: What is your favorite book?
Jordan: I’m an Agatha Christie fan! She’s “The Queen of Crime”, so one of my favorite novels by her is And Then There Were None. Seriously, girls, this is a great book, but I’m not going to spoil it for you! So, no details!

NAM: What advice do you have for future NAM girls?
Jordan: My advice for future NAM girls would be: “every opportunity is an experience worth taking!” National American Miss has changed my life in numerous ways in which I will be forever grateful for. I’m 125% positive they can do the same for our future NAMily. Now’s the chance to sparkle on stage, ladies. Literally!

NAM: If you could be famous for anything what would it be?
Jordan: Even though I fail miserably, I would LOVE to be a famous opera singer like Sarah Brightman and Sierra Boggess! See the connection? They both played Christine Daae in Phantom of the Opera! Remember, I’m obsessed!

NAM: How do you plan to use your title?
Jordan: I plan to use my title to be a positive role model and to be an inspiration, not just for young ladies, but for everyone! I plan to promote the National American Miss system in anyway I can because of the confidence it has instilled in me.

NAM: How do you volunteer in your community?
Jordan: I volunteer with Georgia’s Campaign for Adolescent Power and Potential. It was started by the very famous Jane Fonda in 1996, and its original purpose was to prevent teen pregnancies. While we still focus on pregnancy prevention, we also focus on the overall physical and mental health of teens. We set up booths at popular festivals in Atlanta to promote our platform, and I have participated in classrooms with actual teen moms to discuss ways to prevent becoming pregnant again and focus more on their education. Being a part of this campaign, I have had the privilege of interviewing Miss Jane Fonda herself and Dr. Sanjay Gupta!

NAM:  If you had three wishes what would you wish for?
Jordan: If I had three wishes, my first wish would be to own every single scent made in Bath and Body Works. My second wish would be to communicate with my little yorkie Sammie and figure out why she keeps biting me! And my third wish would be to always keep a positive attitude in everything I do.

NAM: If you could go back in time to any historical event what would it be?
Jordan: Sign me up for the Roaring 20’s! After reading The Great Gatsby, I realized that the 1920’s was a time for music, fashion, and technology. It was a time for women rights, and I love the flapper girl outfits too!

NAM: What is your favorite part about National American Miss?
Jordan:  My favorite part about National American Miss is creating the life-long friendships with girls not only from different parts of Georgia, but also around the country. Some of my best friends, with whom I was a state queen in 2012, live in New York and Florida. Last week, I had a two hour Skype chat with my New Yorker Marivi, and texted my Sunshine State girls Meghan and Amber! I can’t wait to visit them! Olivia, who was the National Cover Miss Jr. Teen in 2012, is my sister queen twin! We had lunch and went shopping over Christmas break. We still keep in contact, and all my girls were watching the national pageant when I won. I love them very much.

NAM: How did you get started with NAM? How long have you been involved?
Jordan: I started NAM when I was 13 years old- Wow! 5 years! I received a flyer in the mail, and I thought, “Hey! I want to do this!”. I called my mom immediately after reading, and it turns out my mom had been throwing previous flyers away because she thought I wouldn’t be interested in doing a pageant. Good thing I got the mail that day, huh? After my very first NAM Georgia state pageant, I made top 20 and was crowned the 2010 Georgia Jr. Teen Covergirl. I was hooked on NAM ever since!

NAM: What is your definition of a NAM girl?
Jordan: My definition of a NAM girl is someone who’s not afraid to try new things; she challenges herself all the while keeping a positive mindset. A NAM girl is someone who believes she can make a difference while wearing high heels!

NAM: What do you like to do for fun?
Jordan: I love to text, Instagram, and Facebook! Follow me on Instagram @missmeachum!

NAM: What makes your state unique?
Jordan: Georgia is well known for its kind people and southern hospitality. “Our home is your home!”. The sweet tea is not bad either!

NAM: What is your favorite food?
Jordan:  My favorite food is Chilli-Spaghetti. Yes, it’s exactly how you think it looks. I just cook some pasta noodles and pour my famous chili right on top. It’s like Steak n’ Shake, but mine is 10,000 times better!

NAM: What makes you laugh?
NAM: What was your first thought you had when you captured your national title?
Jordan: I believe my very first thought when I captured the All-American Teen title was “Jordan, stop screaming!” All of the photos taken of my crowning moment are of me with my mouth wide open. It’s pretty funny, and my mom still imitates my
crowning moment!

NAM: People would be surprised to know what about you?
Jordan: I think people would be surprised to know that I’ve overcome challenges. Not many people know this, but I have been diagnosed with a learning disability. I have always struggled with language processing and verbal comprehension, and it was really at my disadvantage when I was younger. I was actually very fortunate that my parents and teachers noticed it when I was five years old. I remember taking all of these extra, special classes everyday after school, and at the time, I really didn’t understand what they were for, but those classes definitely paid off! Sure, I may be the oldest in my grade, but I’ve also maintained an average of 4.2 as my GPA for the past six years! Remember: Nothing’s impossible if you’re willing to put the effort
into it!

NAM's Top 5 Fashion Tips for NAM Nationals 2015!

NAM's Top 5 Fashion Tips for NAM Nationals 2015!

1.) Start Practicing in Your Shoes Now! You want to command the stage when you step into the NAM National Spotlight, so make sure you are comfortable in the shoes that you are wearing. Practice walking and modeling in your actual stage shoes, so you have one less thing to think about during NAM Nationals.

2.) Go All Out for Themed Rehearsals! This is a super fun part of NAM Nationals that sets up the perfect photo ops! You can post the cutest Instagram pics of you with girls from all over the nation as you are dressed in over the top outfits! Don’t wait till the last minute to put your perfect outfit together. While the host hotel is super helpful they are not equipped with the perfect hat for your State Pride Rehearsal!

3.) Pack the appropriate undergarments for all your outfits. You don’t want extra straps or unwanted lines to show while you are on stage.  Have a dress rehearsal and make sure everything looks exactly the way you want it to.

4.) While Spray Tans are not against our rules, we do not encourage, promote or even recommend that you get one. If you choose to get a spray tan make sure it looks very natural. Make sure you are representing the BEST YOU! NAM's goal is to help you feel comfortable in your own skin. There is absolutely no reason to get a spray tan.

5.) No Bare-Midriffs in the Formal Wear Modeling Competition! It is clearly stated in the rules that bare-midriffs are not allowed. While you may think that 2-piece dress with just a little skin showing is adorable for formal wear, it’s best just to lean on the conservative side! Formalwear should be regal and elegant so stay away from dresses that show your tummy.

Featuring National American Miss Princess Hailey Stroh

NAM: Tell us about yourself:
Hailey: My name is Hailey Stroh, I am 7 years old and live in Liberty Lake, Washington.  My nickname from my family is Hailey-Bug.They have always called me their little princess because I am always kind to others, I spoke very well and proper when I was little, I would dress up in princess costumes every day, and I loved to dance any time I could and I still do.  If I could dance all day I would, it just makes me feel so happy. What I want to do for a job when I grow up is become a doctor. Ever since I was little I have been pretending to help people get better by using my doctor tools on them.  I really like to help people and be like Jesus and turn a frown into a smile.  That is also probably why my family calls me our family peacemaker because I’m always trying to make others happy and helping my siblings get along and not fight. Something else about me is that I love doing service and have had the opportunity to help the Make-A-Wish Foundation, a women and children’s shelter, my local food bank, and my grandparents Adult Family Home where they take care of the elderly.  Nothing feels better than doing kind things for others.
It is an honor to have been crowned the 2014-2015 National American Miss Princess and it still feels like a dream.   I’m so excited to get to know all of my national sister queens and learn from them.  They have already been so sweet to me and I’m excited to see them all at the national photo shoot.  I have gained so much confidence and have learned how to speak to people without being so shy.  I am so grateful for this opportunity, thank you NAM!

NAM: What activities are you involved in?
Hailey: I am involved in cheerleading, ballet, Irish dance, cooking class, and service.

NAM: What are your plans for the future?
Hailey: My plans for the future include going to Brigham Young University and becoming a doctor.  I’ve been pretending to be a doctor since I was two. I really love to help people feel better and think seeing my mom get her blood drawn is so cool!

NAM How would your friends describe you?  I’m a good person and always kind to others.  In fact, I’m known as our family’s peacemaker.  I like everyone to get along and be happy.

NAM: What motto or quote best describes you?
Hailey: My motto that I try to live my life by is CTR which stands for “Choose The Right.”  I am always trying to be like Jesus and do what is right.

NAM: What is the best advice you have ever received?
Hailey: The best advice I have ever received is when my mom suggested I help the Make-A-Wish Foundation because I think it is a really great thing to help all of these kids.  Plus, it is like being a doctor in helping kids get better faster before I can be a real doctor.

NAM: How did you prepare for the NAM National pageant?
Hailey: How I prepared is by practicing my introduction and interview questions with my family.  We didn’t know exactly how I was suppose to walk the stage for formal wear so we just had to wait until we got there and got instruction on what to do.

NAM: Where is your favorite place to shop?
Bailey: The mall because there are all these fun toys and fun places to visit.

NAM: How have pageants shaped your life?
Hailey: It has helped me get involved with the Make-A-Wish Foundation and helped me know how to be more proper.  I am more confident now than I ever have been.  I use to be scared to talk to adults but by having to ask for sponsers to sell a page of advertising for my state pageant it helped me not be so shy and be able to talk to adults.

NAM: What is your most prized possession?
Hailey: The most important thing that I have is my family! They are my best friends and I have so much fun with them.

NAM: What is your favorite movie?
Hailey: My favorite movie is Frozen because it reminds me so much of my sister and me because I use to have blond hair and my little sister has red hair that is the same color of Annas and we are best friends just like Anna and Elsa.

NAM: What is your favorite TV show?
Hailey: I like Cupcake Wars because I love to bake with my mom.

NAM: What is your favorite book?
Hailey: My favorite book is Whatever After by Sarah Mlynowski.  The reason I like it is because it is funny, exciting, and at the end of each chapter it is so suspenseful that I want to keep reading.

NAM: What advice do you have for future NAM girls?
Hailey: Don’t over practice, just be yourself and smile!

NAM: If you could be famous for anything what would it be?
Hailey: I would love to be a famous ballerina.  I would dance all day if I could.

NAM: What is your dream job?
Hailey: My dream job is to become a doctor and help people get better.

NAM: How do you plan to use your title?
Hailey: I plan to use my title by helping people by giving compliments to people and building them up and by serving in as many good causes as I can like the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the New Horizons Care Center.  I also have already been able to meet the Mayor of Liberty Lake and Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers and be able to get advice on how to be a good leader.  I can’t wait to learn from my sister queens also because they are older and wiser and I think they are so cool!

NAM: How do you volunteer in your community?
Hailey: I have worked with Susan G. Komen Foundation and my cheer team “Cheered for the Cure.”  I have had a “Paw Party” where my friends brought presents for the animals at SCRAPS Animal Shelter instead of for myself.  I have been blessed to be able to put together 78 “Wish Packs” for the Make-A-Wish Foundation for all the kids that wish to go on a vacation with their families.  I have also gathered almost 1,000 letters (938) letters to Santa and donated them to Macy’s department store so that they would donate $1, for every letter, to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.  New Horizons Care Center is another place that I have been serving at for the past three years.  Every Christmas my parents, my four other siblings, and my grandparents work together to bring presents to all the children at the shelter.  This year there were 18 kids that we were able to help.  We do all the shopping for the kids and get to pick out what we think they would like and then we come about a week later to the shelter and my grandpa dresses up as Santa and my grandma dresses up as Mrs. Clause and we get to be Santa’s helpers and hand out the presents and play with the kids.  Another fun tradition we have had since I was a baby is going to my other grandparents Adult Family Home where they take care of the elderly.  We bring cookies, sing songs, do a talent show, and act out the Nativity for them.  It is so fun to see how happy we make them.  I am always looking for more ways I can help people because it makes me feel so good inside!

NAM:What is your favorite subject in school?
Hailey:My favorite subject in school is math because I have a great class I get to take where we get to play all of these fun games to learn math.

NAM: If you had three wishes what would you wish for?
Hailey: If I had three wishes, I would first wish for a castle.  Then I would wish for all the kids, who are sick, to get better.  My third wish would be to have magic so that I could have powers like Elsa from Frozen.

NAM: What is your biggest fear?
Hailey: My biggest fear is thinking that the monsters on Scooby Doo are real and will come get me.

NAM: Who is your role model?
Hailey: My role models are my mom and dad because they are the best people I have ever known and I look up to them.

NAM: If you could go back in time to any historical event what would it be?
Hailey: If I could go back in time I would want to live when Jesus lived so that I could help Him heal people.

NAM: Who is the most influential person in the world?
Hailey: I think it is Jesus because He was helpful and served others and teaches me how I should act.

NAM:If you could have dinner with anyone, who would it be?
Hailey: I would want to have dinner with Esther because even though she was a queen she was kind and always thinking of others.  She even risked her life to protect others.  I think I could learn a lot about how to be a good queen from her.

NAM: What is your favorite part about National American Miss?
Hailey: My favorite part about National American Miss is that it is really fun and it gives you confidence and builds you up.  I also had a lot of fun making friends.  I even made a best friend with Miss Kentucky.

NAM: How did you get started with NAM? How long have you been involved?
Hailey: How I got started in NAM is because of my older sister Natalie.  We got a letter in the mail about NAM and my sister wanted to do it but my mom said, “If it is anything like Toddlers in Tiaras we are not doing it.”  So we found out more about it and my mom said my sister could do it and asked if I would like to also.  I, of course said, “Sure!” Obviously, this was our very first experience in pageantry.  I’m so glad that our first and only experience was with NAM!

NAM:What is your definition of a NAM girl?
Hailey: It is a girl that has confidence, they are happy girls, kind, and do service for others.

NAM: What do you like to do for fun?
Hailey: What I like to do for fun is pretend with my little sister that we are Anna and Elsa from the movie Frozen.  My favorite part is when I’m pretending to be asleep and my sister (Anna) opens up my eye and says, “Do you want to build a snowman?”  It kind of hurts but makes me laugh.

NAM: What makes your state unique?
Hailey: I live in Washington and I think it is the best place I have ever been except Disneyland and Hawaii.  I like how it snows in the winter and is hot in the summer and we have green pine trees all over our mountains.  It is really pretty!

NAM: What is your favorite food?
Hailey: My favorite food is strawberries because they are so juicy and yummy!

NAM: What makes you laugh?
Hailey: What makes me laugh is: my cousin Karmin; when my family sits at the table for dinner and we play the manners game (I’m always laughing when we catch someone not using their manners); when I get tickled; and when I play Fruit Basket with my family.

NAM: What was your first thought you had when you captured your national title?
Hailey: My first thought was that I was so excited to be able to spend time with all the National Queens and that my family would be so excited and proud of me.

NAM: People would be surprised to know what about you?
Hailey:  People would be surprised that I am homeschooled along with my four other siblings and I am in the middle of them all.  I also have tried sand boarding and Mutton Busting (riding on the back of a sheep at the fair).  The first year I tried Mutton Busting I got second place and I competed against all boys.

It's been 10 years since this beauty captured her NAM National Title! In honor of their 10th anniversary we would love to feature our 2005-2006 NAM National Titleholders! Stay tuned for updates to see what they are up to now!

A note from Olivia:

Olivia recently moved to New York City to start her freshman year at LIM College. She is majoring in Fashion Merchandising and concentrating in styling. One day she hopes to create her own dress line, but for now she is enjoying shopping on 5th Avenue, going to Broadway shows, taking walks through Central Park, and taking in the city and all it has to offer one adventure at a time.
Olivia will never forget the feeling she had on the national stage as her name was called as the National American Miss Jr.Pre-Teen. Olivia’s favorite memory from her year was traveling to other state pageants and meeting the contestants and their families. This also gave her the opportunity to meet the other state directors with NAM. Traveling to Texas for the national photoshoot was the highlight of her year. She was able to spend a long weekend bonding with her sister queens and the NAM staff. Another highlight was going to Las Vegas for the Miss America pageant. Her overall favorite part of the whole year was getting to spend extra special bonding time with her mom, Chris. Traveling from state to state together and making up her introductions on the way to the pageants (it’s a Miller thing). Olivia and Chris were able to spend a few extra days at the Florida state pageant and went to Universal Studios, a memory they still look back on and will never forget. Olivia has stayed in contact with most of her sister queens through the years and has enjoyed being apart of their lives with weddings, babies, colleges, and even high school volleyball games. The National American Miss family will always hold a special place in Olivia’s heart.
Olivia has captured a total of four state titles along with her national title. She, along with her sisters, Victoria and Alexandria, were crowned the very first Ohio Princess, Jr.Pre-Teen, and Pre-Teen in 2003. What a year that was! She has also won 2 National Photogenic titles and 2 Most Promising Model honors. The experience of competing on the national stage kept Olivia coming back for more. The friendships that she made with her NAMily are the friendships she holds closest to her heart today. She would like to thank Steve and Kathleen Mayes for offering such a positive pageant experience. NAM and her NAMily has helped mold her to the confident young woman she is today.

Her favorite memory from her reign: Traveling to state pageants was her absolute favorite part of being a national title holder; She loved meeting different people in each state and serving as an inspiration to many young girls. She is still in contact with hundreds of people that she met during her summer tour as National American Miss.
What is she up to now: Graduated from Texas Christian University in 2008 with a degree in Fashion Merchandising & Entrepreneurial Management, then continued her graduate education at the University of North Texas to obtain a Master of science in Merchandising.

NAM: Tell us about yourself:
Michaela: I am a 20 year old college sophomore at the University of Florida majoring in Biology and minoring in Mass Communications, in the hopes of pursuing a career as a Pediatric Dentist. I wanted to strike a balance between my love for science, journalism, and being in front of the camera. With this heavy course load, you will often find me in the library with Starbucks in hand!

My family and I migrated from the Philippines when I was 10 years old leaving behind a very comfortable life, family and friends. Transitioning into a new culture and a different lifestyle was extremely hard however we were blessed to have found very supportive neighbors and friends. Now I can say that my family is a hybrid of the best of the American culture and the traditional Filipino values. I can proudly say that I speak three different languages!

NAM: What activities are you involved in?
Michaela: I am an active member of my sorority Zeta Tau Alpha – Gamma Iota Chapter where I participate in philanthropy, service, and sisterhood events weekly! This is something I am very passionate about because I have found my best friends through this sisterhood and continue to find girls who are driven, passionate, and involved.

One of the greatest things that have stemmed off from pageants, is that I have had the honor and privilege to emcee for numerous local, state, national, and international pageants and events. I love being able to travel around the country to host great productions and grow as a public speaker and as a person.

NAM: What are your plans for the future?
Michaela: I am someone who is very goal driven and one of my biggest dreams is to set up my own practice as a renowned pediatric dentist.  With the University of Florida being ranked as one of the top dental schools in the country, I spend countless hours in the library, sipping ounces upon ounces of Starbucks coffee a week, making sure I can attain the highest GPA possible in a very competitive class. I believe in my grandfather’s motto, “The seeds that you sow today are the very fruits that you will reap tomorrow.” In addition, I would love to star on my own TV show delivering the latest news, fashion, and celebrity gossip!

NAM: How would your friends describe you?
Michaela: If my friends were to be asked, they would say that I am someone who is very bubbly, quirky, and loud! I love to make the most of every moment and to remind the people around me to not take life too seriously! They would also share my obsession of Snapchatting every little exciting thing that occurs in my live as well as trying to capture the perfect Instagram picture and caption. (Perfect filters and a witty caption are a must, am I right ladies?!”

NAM: What motto or quote best describes you?
Michaela: A quote I love to share to others is “There is no such as failure, only delayed success.” I acknowledge that life is not always perfect – it has its ups and downs and we do not always get what we have hoped for. But it is very important to keep an optimistic attitude and to believe in God’s plans for us.

This quote hits home for me because I have strived to capture the NAM National title for so many years! I have come so close to the national title as a runner up in 2011 and 2014 in the Jr.  Teen and Teen division. I have been disappointed but I know that I simply had to put my faith in God and continue to prepare, learn from my mistakes, and hope that I will one day find my judges – and I did.

NAM: What is the best advice you have ever received?
Michaela: My dad has always instilled in me the importance of being optimistic. Life is not always perfect – with its many challenges and frustrations, it is easy to doubt yourself and your future, however you simply need to be positive and recognize that God has great plans for all of us in His own time.

NAM: How did you prepare for the NAM National pageant?
Michaela: Though it was very different and difficult to prepare for NAM Nationals as a college student who could not always come home to practice, preparing for NAM was still fun for me as it was a family activity! My entire family got so involved. My parents became my pageant coaches. My brother offered to do all the household chores so my sister and I would have more pageant practice time. They were very supportive as they knew that I had to strike a balance between school and my preparations. I would Facetime my Dad to practice Interview and Personal Introduction and when I came home for the weekend, that is when Formal Wear and Casual Wear were being practiced.

NAM: Where is your favorite place to shop?
Michaela: I love shopping at Agaci and Sephora! You will definitely see me shop till I drop!

NAM: What is your favorite TV show?
Michaela: Whether it’s on my Netflix account or on TV, you can always find the TV show “Forensic Files” running. I am so intrigued by the mystery of the murder and kidnapping cases as well as how the detectives use science and forensics to close the case. “Investigation Discovery ID” is my favorite TV network and though it freaks my mom out during the night, I have a deeply rooted interest in it. In fact, something people do not know about me, is that I actually tried to minor in Forensics and Criminology! This is something that I am extremely passionate and interested about.

NAM: What is your favorite book?
Michaela: I am an avid reader and a giant bookworm! I could read the large Harry Potter books in one day! Though I love my J.K. Rowling novels, my favorite book is “A Child Called It” by Dave Pelzer. It is about a young boy who is physically, mentally, and emotionally abused by his mother. This book was very touching and it made me appreciate my mom even more. I am so grateful for all the sacrifices she makes to give my family everything we want and need. Also, the book has taught me to never judge someone because we may not always have the complete story of what they are going through. It is vital for us to do even the little things to make a positive impact in someone else’s life.

NAM: How do you plan to use your title?
Michaela: Having waited years to hold the NAM National title, I plan to use the crown and banner as a microphone and a platform to touch the lives of others. Through appearances, volunteer service opportunities, and social media I hope to be a beacon of hope to never give up on your dreams no matter the obstacles and to show the world the importance of staying true to yourselves while serving others.

NAM: How do you volunteer in your community?
Michaela: My sister and I started our own non-profit organization, “Crowns and Tiaras for a Cause” five years ago that centers around the platform, “Alzheimer’s Awareness.” Living in a retirement area, we understand the importance of giving back to the elderly who have imparted knowledge and life values. We visit nursing homes around Florida and speak to the families as well as scrapbook with the patients to help jog their memories.

NAM: What is your biggest fear?
Michaela: I am afraid of the dark! Horror movies have caught up with me as I cannot sleep at night without a lamp on or go anywhere that is pitch black.

NAM: What is the biggest misconception about your generation?
Michaela: I believe that the media has shaped an image where my generation is apathetic and self-centered. However, my generation is exactly the opposite. We are a generation of growing leaders, and volunteers. I have met numerous people who have their own organizations and even companies that give back to the community and help the world move forward with their talents and intelligence. My generation is ambitious, strong, and giving.

NAM: Who is your role model?
Michaela: My mom is my biggest role model and real life Superwoman. As a nurse, she works 12 hours a day to provide for her family and she has sacrificed so much simply to watch her children reach their dreams. Her kind heart and soul is extraordinary and I hope that I can be half the wife, mother, and woman that she is.

NAM: If you could have dinner with anyone, who would it be?
Michaela: I would love to sit down and have dinner with Olympic gymnast, Gabby Douglas and talk about the hardships and sacrifices she endured to chase after her life dreams. Having left her family to train, I want to get insights on how she managed to stay optimistic and goal driven – two things I strive to have in my every day endeavors.

NAM: What is your favorite part about National American Miss?
Michaela: I love how National American Miss recognizes the importance of having young women to stay true to themselves. They do not promote unrealistic image goals but rather encourages them to embrace their imperfections, love what they are blessed with, and use their qualities to impact the world. The pageant highlights what today’s modern young woman is all about – goal driven, independent, but also, family-oriented and giving; the very same qualities I strive to have each day.

NAM: How did you get started with NAM? How long have you been involved?
Michaela: I received a letter in the mail inviting me to attend the state pageant and my mom jumped to the chance of being able to finally use what I learned through modeling and transfer it to pageants! However, my dad was very apprehensive because he had doubts of what pageants would bring out in me – unrealistic body image, importance of outward appearance, and the values that it represented. With this, my mom did her research on NAM and found out how life changing and positive the organization was! She actually signed me up for the pageant without my dad knowing and told him a month before the pageant to start preparing!  Of course, my dad was the supportive and loving father that he was. Now, my dad is actually my “pageant coach” and embraces the positive influence and impact National American Miss has had on his two daughters and the entire family.

NAM: What is your definition of a NAM girl?
Michaela: To me, a NAM girl is the modern girl – someone who is ambitious, goal-driven, independent, but is also family oriented and giving. She knows the importance of making a positive impact in her community while balancing her life with faith, education, and fun!

NAM: What do you like to do for fun?
Michaela: I am a big computer nerd and enjoy video scrapbooking through numerous multimedia programs and soft wares! You can always find me with my laptop playing around with pictures and videos. Also, I love being spontaneous and going on adventures with my best friends and discovering the coolest places (with a camera ready in hand of course!).

NAM: What makes your state unique?
Michaela: Florida is the haven of paradise. However, we are much more than just our beautiful beaches and theme parks. Florida boasts several festivals and fiestas throughout the year celebrating different cultures such as the Filipino Festival, Greek Festival, and Puerto Rican Festival. Like the United States, Florida is a melting pot so it is admirable that we celebrate and accept different cultures, heritages, religions, and languages!

NAM: What is your favorite food?
Michaela: I do not mind getting messy with buffalo wings! It may not always be the best idea for a first date or dinner before Homecoming pictures (lesson learned), I can eat buffalo wings every day of the week.

NAM: What was your first thought you had when you captured your national title?
Michaela: “Finally” was the first and only thing that I could mutter when Joy Soprano announced me as the winner. After years of being so close to the national title, I was overwhelmed that my dreams finally met reality. Everything happened so fast and my emotions were at an all time high. I remember that my heart was so full when I looked at the audience and I could see my family, friends, and even strangers stand up and cheer. Hands down, greatest moment of my life thus far!

NAM: People would be surprised to know what about you?

Michaela: People would be surprised to find out that I can walk better in high heels than on sneakers! Also, many would not expect how clumsy I am! Having won the Casual Wear Modeling Competition since 2008 and capturing three National Casual Wear Modeling titles, many assume that I am as graceful offstage as I am onstage however I have broken my arm, leg, and ankle countless times simply from walking on the sidewalk! In fact, I already brought crutches to my college apartment in case of any future incidents!
